Continuing education
We offer at least 8 membership meetings per membership year, with the potential for ‘late-breaking’ lectures, webinar sessions or other CEU opportunities. Educational topics offered are diverse to help meet the varying needs of our members. CEU meetings are usually held once per month during the months of September – December and February – April. Our annual Spring Reception signals the official end of the meeting year. We try to alternate meeting days and times in order to meet the needs of our members.
Networking opportunities
With over 250 active members, SLDA provides excellent opportunities for networking. In addition to planned networking time at educational meetings, we also offer social opportunities for members to meet one another and form new friendships with members of similar interests. Think outside the box when you think about networking. Networking can help you find your first, last, side or future job. It can help you find mentors, best friends or the perfect person you want on your committee. It could even help you find carpool buddies, babysitters or dog sitters!
Volunteer Opportunities
If you have even just a little time and want to engage in meaningful character and resume building experiences, SLDA has opportunities for you. From board and committee positions to rallying support for nutrition related bills at the state and national level, you can make a difference. Consider sharing your talents with the SLDA organization; on our membership application make note of areas you’d like to help with, develop and lead or just hear about.
Service Projects
SLDA is committed to helping others. Along with the volunteer opportunities mentioned above, SLDA offers several opportunities for members to help St. Louis area residents and others around the world who are in need. This year we are planning the following events: ongoing efforts to raise money for local food banks, organize team walks aimed at raising money for worthy causes, adopting a family at the holidays and volunteering time for non-profit organizations. We are proud of our members for their past participation and hope to continue these efforts.
Membership Directory
Members of SLDA are given access to our online membership directory. This valuable resource is available at your fingertips as a downloadable and printable PDF file and gives members access to dietetics professionals working in diverse practice settings with a broad range of experience and expertise.
Social Meetings
Members of SLDA can meet other dietetics professionals in planned social settings. From our SLDA Book Club to planned dinner gatherings and other events in the works, SLDA is a great place to meet new friends or get back into the swing of things if you’ve taken a break away for a while.
Leadership Opportunities
SLDA is a great place to help build and develop transferable leadership skills! Many active and influential dietitians known at the national level got their start working with SLDA! These members include immediate past ADA President, Connie Diekman; author of the American Dietetic Association’s Complete Food and Nutrition Guide, Roberta Duyff; and ADA Media Spokesperson, Marilyn Tanner-Blasier. Whether you aspire to be in the national limelight or you are looking to develop leadership and management skills that can help you climb the professional ladder, you’ll quickly discover that SLDA has plenty of opportunities for interested members to develop such skills.
